ANNOUNCING THE NEW CELL SURGICAL NETWORK OF FLORIDA™

As a dedicated plastic surgeon, I am pleased to announce the launching of  the Cell Surgical Network of Florida (CSN Florida). After more than three decades of plastic surgery experience in the area of cellular therapies with adult fat, I am excited to spearhead the most advanced cell based uses of this abundant resource. Our center is a research affiliate of Cell Surgical Network founder by Dr. Elliot Lander and Dr. Mark Berman of Los Angeles.

We use adipose (fat) derived mesenchymal stem cells for deployment & clinical research. Early stem cell research has traditionally been associated with the controversial use of embryonic stem cells. The new focus is on non-embryonic adult mesenchymal stem cells which are found in a person's own blood, bone marrow and fat. Most stem cell treatment centers in the world are currently using stem cells derived from bone marrow. Recent technological advances enable us to use adipose  derived stem cells. Autologous stem cells from a person's own fat are easy to harvest safely under local anesthesia and are abundant in quantities up to 2500 times those seen in bone marrow. Although I have decades of experience with fat grafts, only recently were we able to convert processed fat into a clear infra natant pellet with millions of stem cells. This giant leap forward with advanced technology now allows our center to provide our patients with more predictable results for both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.

DR. LEWIS OBI COMPLETES 5TH YEAR OF SLIMLIPO PROCEDURES

This month marks five years of SlimLipo (LifeSculpt) procedures in more than 600 patients and in almost 2500 anatomic zones with no major complications. In fact, I was one of the first plastic surgeons in the world to adopt Palomar Medical’s laser technology.

During this period, I have lectured at 15 or more major symposia and meetings and teaching literally hundreds of plastic surgeons internationally.

Below are a few of the patients I have treated beginning with the first to the most recent patients.

First SlimLipo abdomen in October of 2008 on a 62 y/o who reduced 3 dress sizes

SlimLipo of abdomen & thighs November 2008 (#8/600+)

SlimLipo neck (2009) with local anesthesia and return to work next day

Slim Lipo Abdomen (2011)

Slim Lipo Abdomen 2013

My involvement with Palomar (now Cynosure/Palomar) led me to several other cutting edge innovations in plastic surgery. In the area of advanced fat grafting techniques, I was awarded the first FDA approved Adivive Fat Processing Unit. This led to my stem cell work with Drs. Mark Berman and Elliot Lander founders of the Cell Surgical Network based in California.

Long term results with stem cell enhanced Adivive Fat grafting

As noted on our blog of October 11, 2013, SlimLipo is only one of multiple technological advances integrated into my practice during this time span. The Lewis Obi Plastic Surgery Clinic is unique in the following areas:
  1. Global SlimLipo treatments
  2. Adivive fat grafting - first in the USA
  3. Opera Lift - my innovation
  4. LJO brow lift - my innovation
  5. Vectra XT imaging total body including breasts
  6. Vectus Laser Platform - only one in Jacksonville
  7. First to introduce the Icon™ laser platform
  8. First to introduce Medlite C tattoo removal laser
  9. First AHCA licensed surgery center in Florida

Dr. Lewis Obi announces a Renaissance
at Renaissance
Center for Cosmetic Renewal

Dr. Lewis Obi and his staff have spent 15 years putting together the most advanced Med Spa and Aesthetic Center and now has tripled the staffing to accommodate all of our patients.  The lasers alone comprise an array of equipment not equalled in the Greater Jacksonville Area. These include  the Palomar Vectus™ for hair removal, the Icon platform with multiple hand pieces and Cynosure’s Medlite C6™ for tattoo removal, only to mention a segment of our broad inventory

Our new staff members include aesthetician Svetlana “Lana” Tanenya, who recently moved to Jacksonville from Washington state.

ARNP Michelle Zager who worked with Dr. Obi for five years and now returns to a full time position providing access to fillers and Botox five days a week. She will also provide sclerotherapy and laser treatments.

Denise Merlo who has been with Dr. Lewis Obi for six years will continue in her current position and also available five days a week.

The Renaissance staff will also be available one Saturday per month. Refer to our Renaissance website for a list of services offered. Updates to our website are in progress headed up by Lana. NATIONAL BREAST RECONSTRUCTION AWARENESS DAY - OCTOBER 16, 2013

VECTRA XT AND 360 VIDEO TURNTABLE COMBINATION IS UNIQUE TO JACKSONVILLE

THE ULTIMATE APPROACH TO BREAST SURGERY AND BODY CONTOURING

The imaging capabilities at our clinic are particularly useful for patients seeking reconstruction after mastectomy as well as primary augmentations. We were also the first in Jacksonville to provide availability for the Natrelle 410™ “gummy bear” implants. Software downloads with our 3D cameras allows us to narrow down the 45 choices of styles/sizes and provide you with surgical result images of you, prior to surgery. The combination of 3D/360 video imaging and the vast array of implant choices, allows us to treat even the most complicated cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery patients. Most of my breast surgery patients include implant revisions, complicated augmentations, breast reconstruction and combination procedures. The combination procedures include the use of adipose derived stem cell enhanced fat and SlimLipo non surgical laser breast lifts with or without the use of implants.

Next in our series of “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”, informative blogs will be the technique of breast reconstruction using stem cell enhanced fat grafting that was used by Suzanne Somers’ plastic surgeon.

SUZANNE SOMERS AND THE FUTURE OF BREAST RECONSTRUCTION

“Suzanne Somers is famous for her alternative approach to health. So when she lost most of one breast to cancer 10 years ago, she wasn't about to settle for just any old implant. Here, the story of how she waited for — and got — the breast she'd always wanted."   Allison Takeda

The Birth of Cell-Assisted Lipotransfer for Breast Reconstruction
A few years later, something did come along. In 2003, Kotaro Yoshimura, MD, a professor and surgeon at the University of Tokyo in Japan, began testing an innovative procedure he called cell-assisted lipotransfer, or CAL, in which autologous adipose-derived stem cells (those extracted from a person’s own fat) are injected along with other fat cells to plump up or replace tissue, as in the breast. To help remedy some of these issues, Dr. Yoshimura came up with the idea to enrich the injected fat with a higher concentration of stem cells. Stem cells are thought to help preserve and even regenerate fat cells by stimulating growth of blood vessels.
Adipose tissue, or body fat, already contains a certain number of stem cells — about one for every four adipocyte fat cells — but Yoshimura and his colleagues believed that increasing the concentration could enhance survival rates of the tissue and reduce post-operative atrophy. To do this, they used liposuction to remove fat from another part of the patient’s body (for example, her stomach, hip, or thigh), set aside a portion of it to be reinjected, and then isolated the stem cells from the remaining tissue to be combined with the reserved fat. This stem cell-rich mixture was then used as a kind of natural cosmetic filler. Pictured below is Dr. Yoshimura and Dr. Lewis Obi in Boston early 2011.

Prior to meeting Dr. Yoshimura, Dr. Obi had met Dr. Hi Young Lee of South Korea which led to the installation of the first FDA approved Lipokit/Adivive system at the Obi Plastic Surgery Clinic in January of 2011.

After more than one hundred cases, Dr. Obi then became a member of the California Stem Cell Treatment Center is now a participating member of Cell Surgical Network (CSN) Investigational Review Board. Founding members Dr. Berman and Dr. Lander established a protocol to study the efficacy and potential adverse effects of adipose (adult fat) derived stem cells.

The Cell Assisted Lipotransfer (CAL) that was used by Dr. Aronowitz and Dr. Yoshimura to reconstruct Suzanne Somers breast last year is similar to what Dr. Lewis Obi has been performing.

Five years ago, Dr. Obi was one of the first plastic surgeons in the world to integrate Palomar’s LifeSculpt (SlimLipo) into his practice. Below is an example of a totally non surgical breast reconstruction using a combination of CAL on the irradiated/lumpectomy cancerous breast while non surgically laser lifting the opposite breast. Dr. Aronowitz elected to surgically lift Somers opposite breast.

Since the integration of Adivive fat grafting and SlimLipo laser treatments, Dr. Lewis Obi has adopted many other new innovations for his breast surgery patients. These include Vectra XT™ 3D imaging and Natrelle™ 410 solid matrix implants, only to mention a few.

Dr. Lewis Obi's Preview to his 3 part Breast Cancer Awareness Series

"Medicine's contribution to art, is the art of plastic surgery" - a quote coined by Dr. Lewis Obi was has dedicated his life to his craft.  This month we would like to dedicate our attention to the most beautiful of God's creation:  Eve and all of the women who have followed in her footsteps. Therefore, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month we focus on the myriad of procedures that Dr. Obi performs in the area of both aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery.  Being skilled in both areas has provided patients an added benefit because of Dr. Obi's vigilance and expertise in assessing tissues in such a high cancer risk area.  Also, the arsenal of treatment modalities from traditional techniques to lasers, adult fat derived stem cells (ASC) and a host of innovations, provides Dr. Lewis Obi's patients with many unique choices.

We will be presenting a 3 part series on the latest innovations in the area of breast surgery including CAL (cell assisted lipotransfer), Natrelle Style 410 gummy bear implants and much more!
