THE VISUAL ASPECTS OF RECONSTRUCTIVE PLASTIC SURGERY

Unfortunately, the general public equates plastic surgery strictly with cosmetic surgery procedures. As a plastic surgeon, I have perhaps performed more corrective eye surgery procedures than the vast majority of plastic and or opthalmologic surgeons in the U.S. My main contribution has been the recognition and most effective treatment of sagging brows, “The LJO Brow Llft™” which avoids a “deer in the headlights” distortion. Medicare and most insurance policies pay for upper eyelid/brow ptosis surgeries if the visual compromise is documented by peripheral visual field testing by an eye doctor.

The above patient is a good example of combining a gentle “LJO’ lift of the outer brow with a precise reduction of redundant upper eyelid skin. These procedures rarely result in any noticeable scars and most patients return to work in five days. Since I innovated the LJO procedure more than 30 years ago, I have successfully treated more than 3000 patients with this combined technique. Unfortunately, removing only upper eyelid skin increases the sag of the outer brow and if too much skin is removed from the upper lids, dry eye syndrome may occur post operatively.

One of the most common procedures that I perform on my male patients is a combination of the LJO brow lift and eyelid surgery. Although insurance does not cover lower eyelid surgery, the patient may save up to 50% of the fee for the lower lids if performed with the upper lid surgery. These procedures are performed under local anesthesia with minimal sedation and only mild discomfort. As reflected by my fellow Marine pictured above, our eyes are windows to our soul and therefore flattered that he chose me as his plastic surgeon. Semper Fi!

THE WONDERS OF STEM CELLS

TRADITIONAL FACE LIFT GOES TO THE OPERA

I am amazed but not surprised with my patients response when any mention of fat is suggested as part of their facial procedures: “my friend had Dr. X inject her with fat and none of it took”. The patient pictured above is now two years post Cell Assisted Lipotransfer (CAL) which is the most advanced technique of fat grafting.

Since January of 2011 I have provided Adivive treatments to approximately 200 patients with significant take in 90% of patients treated. More recently the addition of PRP and CAL has not only increased the long term volume retained but has significantly reduced bruising and down time.

Adivive, CAL and PRP is now used in the majority of traditional face lift and eye lid surgery procedures to produce a prolonged natural youthful look and reduce the need for future synthetic fillers.

Typical results after LJO brow lift and eyelid surgery enhanced with adipose derived stem cells (Adivive plus PRP).

In terms of total body aesthetics as well as fee reduction (up to 50%), SlimLipo of the donor site is often performed at the same time.

This patient had her abdomen and face treated on a Wednesday and back to work on Monday.

Very pleased patient who underwent total face lift, LJO brow lift and eyelid surgery and recently had Adivive/PRP to face after weight gain. Post Adivive pictures will be posted after her next visit.

We have been researching the application of adipose derived stem cells in the area of regenerative and therapeutic uses for three years. We are now a participating IRB member of the Cell Surgical Network of California and will extend our technology to other specialties in the near future.

THE MANY FACETS OF PLASTIC SURGERY AT THE OBI PLASTIC SURGERY CLINIC

During recent years I have had visiting physicians of diverse specialties and from many geographic areas. The common denominator is the vast diversity and scope of the procedures I am involved with. In addition, I am blessed with a talented and dedicated staff that many plastic surgeons envy and respect. We may be biased but we believe our clinic is perhaps the most technologically advanced plastic surgery center in the world....yet very artsy, private and elegant.

During the past several years we have introduced the most advanced technology with lasers, clinical applications of cellular surgical techniques (Adivive) and the most advanced imaging devices (Vectra).  The frontier of plastic surgery, and medicine, relies heavily on these technological advances. My enthusiasm for research, teaching and patient care is evidenced by an early arrival to my office every morning where I am greeted by my two favorite ladies:

This setting inspires me to enter my OR and to apply new research and innovations to many of the unique plastic surgery procedures we perform every day.

All of these efforts have become apparent with the enhanced results outpatients are experiencing.

Today's blog barely touches the surface of the complexity of our clinic.  My next blog will introduce you to the "Cell Surgical Network of Florida".  LJO

Dr. Obi Featured in Aesthetic Guide

DR. LEWIS OBI FEATURED IN AESTHETIC GUIDE
(International circulation to 25,000 aesthetic physicians)

Dr. Lewis Obi was featured and quoted in the July/August issue Aesthetic Guide magazine. Editor Jeffrey Frentzen interviewed Dr. Obi earlier on the synergistic approaches to "Energy Based Body Shaping Procedures". Frentzen had previously featured Dr. Lewis Obi as the cover story of Plastic Surgery Practice (PSP) magazine in June of 2011.

"There has been a lot of talk about synergistic treatments and synergy as a concept" said Lewis J. Obi M.D., a plastic surgeon in Jacksonville, Fla.  "I think that the nature of our practice is broad and diverse.  Sometimes if you combine minimally invasive and even surgical liposuction with other energy based devices, you increase the potential for excellent results.  The old belief that these devices are toys and untested in the real world is completely thrown out of the window now".
