Benefits of Adivive Autologous Fat Transfer for the Face
Dr. Lewis Obi is frequently asked questions regarding his use of Adivive on patients and its benefits. The following is one of the most commonly asked questions.
What are some of the benefits of Adivive fat
transfer for the face?
Dr. Lewis Obi explains: "There are many benefits for the face. First of all, I almost always combine small volume (40cc or less) Adivive fat grafting with almost all of my surgical face lifting procedures. Larger volume fat grafting to the face may be utilized as a totally non-surgical technique for three dimensional tightening of the face. This is a procedure that Dr. Mark Berman of L.A. refers to as a "3-D Space Lift" and more recently I coined the acronym of "The OPERA Lift". I have taken the liberty of using "OPERA" to translate to: the Obi Palomar External Rejuvenating Aesthetics. (In other words, the patient will undergo the procedure on a Monday and may be presentable enough to attend the Opera on Saturday.) The facial tightening is accomplished with large volume Adivive fat and the neck tightening with the SlimLipo laser."
If you have any questions regarding the use of Adivive, we encourage you to submit your questions to info@obiplasticsurgery.com and Dr. Obi will be happy to answer your inquiry.

The Importance of Maintenance and Touch-ups Following Facelift
The longevity of most facelifts is between five to 10 years and depends on the
surgical technique utilized. Maintenance of results is important and includes
avoidance of sun damage, good skin care and a healthy life style.
Aging is a dynamic process and through the years, it may be necessary to
maintain results with various touch-up procedures. Facelifts are one of the
most sought-after cosmetic surgery procedures for significant facial
rejuvenation.

As with any plastic surgery, it may be necessary to revise and touch-up
several years following a facelift procedure. In fact, maintenance and touch-up
following a facelift may even enhance a patient’s results. Laser resurfacing, fillers and a healthy skin regimen may help delay the aging
process but will not prevent the inevitable.
Recent advances in medicine have made revision procedures after facelifts much easier and virtually non invasive. There are many post-facelift options
available to enhance and rejuvenate your looks.
- OPERA Lift: The OPERA Lift Minor is an ideal technique for patients with minimal sag, deep folds and soft tissue deficiency.
- Adivive: Is a more natural filler derived from one’s own fat. It’s filtered then used in rejuvenation. When enhanced with PRP, longer lasting results are incurred.
- SlimLipo: Can remove unwanted fat and sag in the neck and is
particularly effective after a facelift. Its skin tightening effects result almost instant and the patient enjoys practically no down time.
- PRP: Platelet-rich Plasma is derived from one’s own blood which is centrifuged and filtered into a clear solution. PRP is utilized in both surgical and non-surgical procedures to enhance results and prevent bruising.
- TCA Peel (35% TriChlorAcetic Acid): Dr. Lewis Obi is one of the few plastic surgeons still utilizing this technique of skin resurfacing. In select patients, this technique is more effective and longer lasting than laser resurfacing.
- Icon Laser: Fractional (Fraxel) resurfacing reduces wrinkles, sun damage and loose skin non invasively. Three treatments are usually required but there is minimal down time.
- Photofacial Rejuvenation: Photofacials assist in maintaining skin clarity and firmness.
- Botox and Fillers: These injectables either smooth any creases and wrinkles as well as restore facial volume. Both are ideal for patients seeking touch-ups several times a year.

It is especially important for more mature patients to maintain their skin
after a facelift as it becomes increasingly difficult to correct damage
and wrinkles during one’s golden years.

DR. LEWIS OBI MD, ONE OF THE FIRST PLASTIC SURGEONS IN THE UNITED STATES TO UTILIZE ADIVIVE
Recently, Palomar launched an international advertising campaign highlighting their latest platform, the Adivive Fat Transfer System – a device that is changing fat transfer procedures for the better. In the campaign, Dr. Lewis Obi - one of the first surgeons in the United States to utilize this platform - is quoted regarding his use of Adivive and his patients’ results.
(Click on the image below to view a larger version)
"Even after my first experience with the Adivive Fat Transfer System it was obvious that the compressed/filtered fat was of an extraordinary quality, which I have observed during injection, early postoperatively and more than 12 months later. I have not seen similar results during the past 30 years of performing fat injections." Lewis Obi, MD
Using optimized centrifugation and weighted-mesh filtration, the Adivive system removes excess fluids and oils for higher quality fat grafts that can maintain their volume longer than those created by other fat transfer methods. For patients that are eager for dramatic, longer-lasting results - the Adivive Fat Transfer System can help meet their expectations.

STEM CELL BREAST RECONSTRUCTION UTILIZED BY CELEBRITY SUZANNE SOMERS
In January of 2011, Dr. Lewis Obi became one of the first surgeons in the
United States to utilize the Adivive autologous fat grafting procedure, the
first FDA-approved fat processing unit pioneered by MediKahn and
Palomar Medical Technology.
The Adivive system is especially ideal for breast cancer patients and the
reconstruction of breasts for women avoiding the use of breast implants
or complicated flap procedures. Using one’s own stem cell concentrated fat for reconstruction is a viable alternative and can often times be
performed without general anesthesia. Obviously the complexities of
flap/implant reconstruction and their inherent risks are also avoided.

Recently, actress Suzanne Somers revealed that she received a stem cell
breast reconstruction procedure after her battle with breast cancer. After
refusing the typical pre- and post-cancer treatments, Somers held series
of meetings with Dr. Yoshimura, Dr. Lewis Obi’s Adivive colleague, and
became of the first women in the U.S. to receive this breakthrough
procedure. L.A. plastic surgeon Joel Aronowitz performed Suzanne Somers' stem cell concentrated fat grafting procedure. On her series “Suzanne Somers Breaking Through” she revealed not only her story, but also a video
chronicling her surgery.

Ironically, both Dr. Aronowitz and Dr. Lewis Obi were featured in Plastic
Surgery Practice magazine recently. Dr. Obi was the cover story for the
June 2011 PSP edition whereas Dr. Aronowitz was featured in a story for
the January 2012 PSP issue. Dr. Obi is also one of the leading plastic surgeons in the United States to perform such cutting-edge procedures
and continues to explore new and innovative techniques in plastic surgery. The creative environment that has been established at the Obi Plastic Surgery Clinic provides patients with many more choices
both in the area of reconstructive as well as aesthetic plastic surgery. We
invite you to explore Dr. Obi’s work with Adivive patients and view before and after photos of Adivive results.

INTRODUCING THE "OPERA LIFT"
Plastic Surgeons and patients alike are attracted to acronyms that have
been utilized over the decades in an effort to promote new techniques.
Early in Dr Lewis Obi’s career the term “Mini Lift” was used as a marketing
tool to provide patients with alternatives to the more major and costly face
lifting procedures. The issue of down time from work and social activities
was also a consideration. About every five years or so since the term Mini
Lift was introduced, other trademark procedures have included the “Feather
Lift”, “MACS Lift” and “Life Style Lift”. Except for the “Feather Lift” which
was soon abandoned because of significant complications, none of the
other trademark procedures were unique. However with the recent advent
of advanced technology by Palomar, there is finally justification for a new
acronym The OPERA Lift”. Palomar Medical introduced the LifeSculpt
(SlimLipo) laser platform three years ago and Dr. Lewis Obi was one of the
earliest providers. This year Palomar introduced the Adivive Fat Processing
Unit and Dr. Obi acquired the first FDA approved system.
Dr. Lewis Obi has combined these two technologies and is now offering
patients with a significant alternative to traditional facelifting procedures.
The OPERA Lift is translated into the Obi Palomar External Rejuvenation
Aesthetics and is an entirely non-surgical procedure. Loose facial skin,
deep facial creases, indelible lines and eye hollows are minimized with
Adivive stem cell enhanced fat grafting (an average take of 52%). Neck
tightening is achieved with the Palomar SlimLipo laser platform. Down time
varies from 3 days to 10 days depending on the volume of fat grafting
utilized in the face. The pictures below reflect the patient immediately after
fat grafting and then 3 days later (OPERA minor). The introductory pictures
above reflect a longer recovery because of larger fat volume and the added
surgical procedures of an LJO browlift (OPERA major). The OPERA minor
procedure may be performed with oral sedation whereas the Opera major
is performed with conscious nurse sedation.
Another example of a large volume fat grafting procedure to the face
(Opera major) resulted in a down time of approximately 7 days. Stem cell
concentrated fat may be use in volumes of up to 90 cc thereby resulting in
a “3D Spacelift” that was first described by Dr. Mark Berman of Beverly
Hills. Patients are told that they may benefit with a second but lesser
(OPERA minor) grafting session six months to a year later. Long term
results are expected in the majority of patients.

THE FLORIDA TIMES-UNION HEADLINE STORY TODAY
“Mayo joins S. Korean firm for ALS study”
Todayʼs headline story in the Florida Times-Union is a very familiar story to Dr. Lewis Obi. Palomar Medical Technology Inc. has been collaborating with South Korean Plastic Surgeon Dr. He Young Lee since last year. Dr. Lee, MD, PhD heads up MediKahn which is based in Seoul, Korea. After meeting with Dr. Lee last year, Dr. Lewis Obi was provided with the first FDA Fat Processing Unit in January. The Adivive™ (Lipokit) system was developed to concentrate stem cells derived from adult fat. Dr. Obi was questioned at the Obi Plastic Surgery Clinic today regarding today's TU article and he stated “It makes sense to look to Asia for leading research not only in the area of Stem Cell science but also into biopharmaceuticals as The Mayo Clinicʼs research team here in Jacksonville is doing. During the past year we have been extremely interactive with scientific developments not only in South Korea but in Japan, Europe and the U.S.”
