OBI PLASTIC SURGERY CLINIC CONTINUES TO BE IN THE FOREFRONT OF PLASTIC SURGERY

Dr. Lewis Obi has been high profile not only as a comprehensive plastic surgeon but also in the area of clinical research with lasers and stem cell fat grafting. During the past 33 months Dr. Obi has treated nearly 400 patients with SlimLipo (LifeSculpt) laser technology and Adivive Fat Grafting procedures (Palomar Medical Technology Inc.™). Dr. Lewis Obi has lectured at numerous advanced symposia as well as national plastic surgery society meetings. DR. LEWIS OBI TO SPEAK AT ANNUAL MEETING OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF PLASTIC SURGEONS (ASPS)

Dr. Lewis Obi remains in the forefront of plastic surgery with an invitation to deliver a 1 1/2 hour presentation at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) on September 25, 2011. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. Founded in 1931, the society is composed of board-certified plastic surgeons who perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. With more than 6000 board certified plastic surgeons, the ASPS annual meeting is the largest attended plastic surgery meeting of the year. Dr. Lewis Obi’s talk is titled "The New "FaceLift" in the New Economy: Combining Modalities for Customized Results". Dr. Obi was selected to present this topic at a special 1 1/2 hour luncheon assembly because of his advanced work with lasers, stem cell fat grafting and his specialized techniques of facial rejuvenation. A combination of in depth experience and evolving new techniques has placed Dr. Lewis Obi in demand on a national level. His cover story for Plastic Surgery Practice (PSP) magazine last month is a testimonial to the escalating recognition of Dr. Lewis Obi among his peers.

DR. JOHN MURRAY ALSO TO SPEAK AT ASPS
During the same week in September, Dr. John Murray will present his own clinical testing on a new technique of assessing circulation in flaps during reconstructive breast surgery. DR. LEWIS OBI AND DR. JOHN MURRAY - BREAST SURGEONS

Dr. Lewis Obi and Dr. John Murray have effectively combined their diverse talents in the areas of aesthetic breast surgery and reconstructive breast surgery. SKIN CANCERS, SUN EXPOSURE AND SUNSCREENS REVISITED

Last May, the Obi Plastic Surgery Clinic presented a comprehensive blog on the topic of skin cancers and sunscreens.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) just issued a new directive on this issue and it should be noted that more than 80% of sunscreens on the market are either unsafe or ineffective. This is particularly important with our babies and children as sun exposure during these early years leads to accelerated aging, damage to the immune system, increased incidence of internal as well as skin cancers, cataracts, macular degeneration and numerous other maladies.

Therefore our advice is for limited sun exposure and the safest sunscreen is clothing, hats and sunglasses. However, the majority of Americans are spraying and splashing unsafe chemical on their skin which may not only be internally toxic but also increase the risk of melanomas and other cancers. Drs. Lewis Obi and John Murray together have more than 50 years of combined experience in treating melanomas and other skin cancers and both doctors agree that the best treatment is prevention. Therefore, we are republishing our recommendations from last spring's blog post along with the most recent recommendations from EWG for the selection of safe and effective sunscreens.
